Primal Palate double whammy.

November 15, 2013  |  Food, Uncategorized  |  Share

So, I feel like a little bit of a jerk. Bill and Haley were nice enough to send me copies of their two amazing new books and I forgot to post it. You might have noticed that we have been a little absent around here lately. I love this blog and sharing with you all, but I am trying to spend more time with my family and more time working on two other business ventures. More to come on those lately. The reason recipes of also been scarce is pretty plan and simple. We haven't been creating new recipes. We have been keeping our diets pretty simple lately. For health and time reasons. It seems to be working for us. I am trying to decide wether to keep this site going. My time is just spent elsewhere right now. We will see. Now for the review... I have in my hands a...

“Practical Paleo” Book Review

August 1, 2012  |  Food, Life, Uncategorized  |  Share

I have been going back and forth on how I should start this post. I really can't decide. So I will just start off by saying, WOW, this book is amazing. Diane from Balanced Bites, really hit it out of the park with this book. I wish when I started my Paleo journey that I would have had this book at my disposal. I think this book will be accessible to everyone from a Paleo veteran to someone who eats cereal all day. You can tell a lot of thought went into the structure and layout of the book. The first part of the book is an intro to Paleo and why we should be eating whole foods. It's very easy to understand. You get some of the science, but it is never overwhelming. Also included are some awesome guides. They are for quick references ranging from leaky gut, a guide to...

Its been a crazy couple of months in our household. My wife is expecting our second child, we are selling our house and looking for a new house in a different city, my wife was laid off, and I am starting a new job. This is a lot of change happening all at once, but I say bring it on. The reason I am bringing this up is because I was inspired this morning. I noticed a woman across the bus from me reading "The Paleo Diet" by Loren Cordain. Normally I am not the type to talk to someone on the bus like this, but this Paleo diet has changed mine and my whole families life. So, I sat by her and we started chatting. She told me that she had tried the diet before but was just now getting back into it. She also said she really feels like this...

Paleo Kids

April 12, 2011  |  Uncategorized  |  Share

I really wanted to share this link with you. Paleo Kids This is something we deal with in our family. We all eat Paleo. Well for the most part. I won't throw anyone under a bus. But it is hard sometimes to get your child to eat how you eat. Sarah goes into great detail about her family and how they eat Paleo. I can't wait to get my copy of her book. She talks about getting your kids involved in the kitchen. This is something I have always wanted to do, but Nolan gets into everything and I worry about him getting burned or cut. So, a couple of days ago I put him up on a chair and he watched me cook breakfast. He didn't help much, but its a start. I really hope to get him more involved with stirring things in a pot and what not. (Oh, I...

How strict do You Have to be with a Side of Cabbage and Meat Muffins

February 21, 2011  |  Food, Uncategorized  |  Share

I am always inspired to write a new blog post after listening to The Paleo Solution podcast. This morning is no different. Robb Wolf was asked a question about cheat meals. This is an interesting topic and I will try not to ramble to much, but I have a few thoughts and totally agree with Robb on this one. First off, I hate how its called a cheat meal. When I was following a more Primal Blueprint approach which is an 80% to 20% lifestyle plan I found myself cheating to much. I do agree that as long as you are following a Paleo type diet at 80% compliance, than you are doing great and probably doing a lot better than you were before. But I wanted to do better and I was allowing myself to slip to much. I wanted to be eating better. I know what I am supposed...

Valentine’s Day

February 14, 2011  |  Food, Uncategorized  |  Share

I thought I would share with everyone what we at for Valentine's Day this year. First I should say that I took the day off from work to spend it with my family. I had planned a few things to do, but weather would not allow. No worries though. It was nice to get an extra day at home. Love long weekends. For breakfast I made our Oven Baked Zucchini Hash. And had leftovers pancakes. For Lunch we just had simple leftovers. I ate some salmon while Nolan and Jamie ate some leftover Zucchini Hash. For a little appetizer I made  up some chocolate ganache Ingredients: 4 oz 70% dark chocolate, finely chopped 1 cup coconut milk Procedure: Place the chocolate in a bowl. Heat the coconut milk in a saucepan over medium heat just until it simmers. Remove from the stove and pour the warm coconut milk over the chocolate, whisking vigorously until...

Snacks and a little info on Fasting.

February 9, 2011  |  Food, Uncategorized  |  Share

Snacks is another thing that is sitting right under our noses, yet w always struggle with. We do to. Its easy to just grab something and just eat it. Sadly, most of the time when you just grab something and eat it, its not the healthy for you. Like right now I am still at work after hours and am hungry. There is a package of chocolate covered macadamia nuts behind me. I could easily grab one and just mound on it. I planned a little better than that. I have home made beef jerky to eat. I also packed a smoothie this morning. If I haven't done these things I would probably be eating 5 of those chocolate things right now. This was one thing that I struggled with while switching to this Paleo lifestyle. But now that we eat right around 100% Paleo, I find that I can eat bigger...

Going Poo-less or No Shampoo, ewww Gross.

January 27, 2011  |  Uncategorized  |  Share

Now that I have your attention I will get the embarrassment out of the way. Yes, I don't use shampoo. I know gross right. NO! You are probably thinking why would I possibly want to not use shampoo, are you a hippy now? Don't worry I am not going to start listening to The Grateful Dead or growing out dreads. But I do care about my health and body. I don't put chemicals or poisonous things into my body so why would I put them on my body? I do still wash my hands frequently. As I am a slight germaphobe. Let me say that this was a gradual thing and I did not just stop showering one day. I still shower everyday, when I wake up and again after the gym. Some of you are probably thinking that you are a guy your hair is short. I am a girl I can't...
