Book Review: Primal Moms Look Good Naked

Let’s just be honest here. I have never read one Primal/ Paleo book before. Only cookbooks J So when Peggy sent me a complimentary copy I was super excited! The structure of the book, with it’s bold headlines and easy to read, concise paragraphs are any readers dream come true. Peggy has researched & referenced so many books & websites and placed them into one complete book. I just enjoyed reading the book from cover to cover. The book is not only about pregnancy let’s just get that question out of the way. She speaks about what it truly means to be a beautiful primal woman. This requires nutritional based food,  plenty exercise and reduction of stress. Although, much Emphasis on Food. The most exciting facts for me since I have already had my children are about collagen, stretch marks, cellulite, hormones, varicose veins, healthy hair, abdominal muscles, and saggy...

Beyond Bacon Review and Giveaway! Wahoo

July 2, 2013  |  Food, Life  |  Share

I was able to help The Paleo Parents test out some of their recipes for the book, so I have been excited for a long long time to receive a copy of this book. And wholly pig they did not disappoint. This is way more than I expected.  The recipes alone are worth the price of the book. But the recipes aren't all that they provide you with. The book starts off with a foreword by none other than Joel Salatin. If you don't know who Joel is, Google it. You will love him, I guarantee it. Then Stacey and Matt layout the whole process of the pig. From why you should focus on pasture raised pig, what cuts to get to the sciencey side of benefits of the pork to the so called Hazards of pork. The most informative part for me was the basics section. How to smoke pork, how...

Our Responsibility. Part One.

February 27, 2013  |  Life  |  Share

I am going to try my hand at writing more posts, that aren't just food recipes. I am sure the first few posts like this will be a little scrambled as I am not a writer and my thoughts are all over the place. I am not sure where to begin. I guess I could talk about my kids and how proud I was the other day at a Birthday party my oldest, Nolan 3.5 yrs. attended. I was proud of him because there was pizza and cake to be had, but he turned it down for apples and the Paleo cookies that we brought. Of course he wanted more than the two cookies we gave him, but he was really hungry because he didn't want to eat dinner before the party. Snacks have been a struggle in our house lately. At school he has been eating the snack provided, not...

“Make it Paleo” Book Review and Giveaway!!!!

October 24, 2012  |  Food, Life  |  Share

OK, so this post is long overdue. I can easily say this is one of my favorite cookbooks, Paleo or not. I can just sit here and flip through this book for tons of inspiration. The pictures in this book have set the standard for all cookbooks that come after. Bill and Haley from The Food Lovers Primal Palate really set the bar high. With over 200 recipes that anyone can create with the amazing directions and pictures this is money well spent. I bought this book when it originally came out and even with all the cookbooks that I have purchased since, this one still gets used the most. Just listen to a few of these recipes... Mint Lamb Burgers Rosemary Roasted Turkey Pineapple Glazed Chicken Skewers And don't even get me started on their Treats and Cheats... No seriously, if I was able to have any cookbook authors cook a meal for...

“Practical Paleo” Book Review

August 1, 2012  |  Food, Life, Uncategorized  |  Share

I have been going back and forth on how I should start this post. I really can't decide. So I will just start off by saying, WOW, this book is amazing. Diane from Balanced Bites, really hit it out of the park with this book. I wish when I started my Paleo journey that I would have had this book at my disposal. I think this book will be accessible to everyone from a Paleo veteran to someone who eats cereal all day. You can tell a lot of thought went into the structure and layout of the book. The first part of the book is an intro to Paleo and why we should be eating whole foods. It's very easy to understand. You get some of the science, but it is never overwhelming. Also included are some awesome guides. They are for quick references ranging from leaky gut, a guide to...

My Paleo, Primal, Ancestral, and JERF Resources

June 28, 2012  |  Food, Life  |  Share

I have been inspired to write a post like this a few times over the past couple of weeks. At the Kettlebell Gym I go to, a few of the other crazies that get beat down on the regular have been talking about a clean eating challenge. They have been asking me about recipes and what is Paleo. Also, Cave Girl Eats posted a pic of her fridge the other day that made me think if people would be interested in seeing what is in my Kitchen. Well, wether you are interested or not I am still going to post this. It is a little difficult for me not to get to complicated with talking about Paleo. I love this lifestyle and have been living it for three plus years and am still figuring it out. I will try to keep it simple and look back to when I first...

Sweet Potato Power!

May 23, 2012  |  Food, Life  |  Share
Sweet Potato Power!

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of the book Sweet Potato Power by Ashley Tudor. I can tell you that this review is not biased at all because I actually bought the book before I got my copy to review. Luckily I was able to cancel that order and save a few bucks. My reviews are usually short and to the point because I don't want to give much away. If I enjoy the book I want you to read it too. So here are some of my thoughts. I should let you know that I have a sweet potato problem. I think I am addicted. Hehe. I have to say right off the bat that this is going to be one of my first go to books to suggest to people who are interested in how I eat. Most of the books I have read that relate to...

Your Kids and Paleo

Your Kids and Paleo

I have been wanting to write this post for awhile. I will probably spend more time on it then necessary, but I have so many thoughts on this subject. Your kids should be eating Paleo, too. A little background. Some of you might already know a little bit about our journey, but for all of our newer followers here you go. I (Kyle) started eating Paleo about 3 years ago.  We found out we were pregnant with Nolan and this kicked my butt into gear to eat and live a healthier life.  We had tried gluten and dairy free in the past, but we weren't dieting, we just wanted to feel better. I was thinking we should try cutting out dairy again so I was doing some research on dairy intolerance and came upon Mark's Daily Apple. From there the rest is really history. I ordered his book then read Robb's...

The Paleo Diet Budget Shopping Guide Review

March 29, 2012  |  Life  |  Share

This very practical ebook was just released by Robb Wolf. The Paleo Diet Budget Shopping Guide. I was lucky enough to get it a few days early, so I dove right in and wrote this quick review for you. Our family has been eating a Paleo diet for almost three years now, so needless to say we have figured out a few of these tips ourselves. But in no way am I saying that if you are a Paleo regular or whatever that you shouldn't purchase this ebook. Because you should. It is loaded with all kinds of goodies. There are links to audio bonuses of Robb telling us how it is. To awesome recipe links and everything in between. On Robb's site they go through an overview of the book that is very detailed. You can read it here. But I will put a few more cents in on some of...

Eat Like a Dinosaur and a Giveaway!!

Eat Like a Dinosaur and a Giveaway!!

I have to start this off by saying thanks to the Paleo Parents for letting us review a copy of their awesome book "Eat Like a Dinosaur". We are honored. When we received the book in the mail we immediately read it to our 2.5yr old son Nolan. I think we read the story 3 times in a row. I had to stop there so we could make dinner. After dinner we sat down again and looked through the recipes and Nolan kept saying over and over, "Eat that one". Lets just say the food looked appealing to Nolan. Now what happened next was priceless. Nolan found his pad and paper and asked me for a crayon. I asked why and he said he wanted to write a recipe. The he handed me the  recipe. Not sure what it says though. Probably bacon and eggs. After the kids went to bed that night...
